Engineered and mixed by Nao Anzai (Floodlights, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Belair Lip Bombs), ‘ ‘A Taste Of Oxygen’ is truly a whirlwind of textures and emotions sonically. Scratchy, frantic guitar leads seem to come from every direction throughout the verses, laying the perfect groundwork for frontman James Young’s brooding, manic vocal performance - one that feels almost akin to Nick Cave’s work in The Birthday Party. The mood shifts dramatically as ‘A Taste Of Oxygen’ hits the chorus; changing up to a euphoric and impossibly catchy melody - serving as a buffer between the madness found in the verses, and showing off the band’s impressive songwriting skills.
